Lead Hill's Gifted and Talented Challenge Program (GT) is designed to help students develop critical and creative thinking skills, research topics of interest, improve communication skills, and have the opportunity to interact with other students of similar ability.
Primary students are served through weekly whole-class enrichment lessons. Students in grades 4-6 will be served for 150 minutes a week in a pull-out program. Services for secondary students are mostly provided by their high school teachers through AP classes, Pre-AP classes, and in-class differentiation. In addition, they meet with me monthly and have the opportunity to participate in activities such as Quiz Bowl and chess tournaments.
I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with your child.
How are students selected for the GT program ?
The process starts with a nomination, either from a teacher or staff member, a parent, community member, or the student himself. A nomination may be made at any time. After a nomination is received, data is collected, including test scores, parent and teacher questionnaires, grades, and ability and creativity tests. Then the Placement Committee, composed of teachers, an administrator, and the GT Coordinator, meets to review the collected data and make a determination whether or not the GT program is the best placement option for the student. If a parent disagrees with the committee's decision, there is an appeals process in place.
If you wish to nominate a student for Lead Hill School District's GT program, contact the child's teacher or the GT administrator for a nomination form, either in person, through district email, or by phone at the regular school number.
